Covanta Energy
Energy-from-Waste Covanta Solutions Take A Wild Guess

Why-import-what-we-throw

Many nations around the world depend heavily on imported fossil fuel.  It is a vital interest of citizens to diversify energy sources and become more energy independent.  Currently, only two percent of the U.S. electricity comes from renewable sources.

Covanta: leading the way to sustainable electricity

There is no panacea for our energy challenges. But EfW can play a major role in increasing renewable electricity production. Currently EFW provides 17% of our country’s non-hydroelectric power. Today, only 2% of the electricity produced in the U.S. comes from non-hydro renewable sources.  Covanta alone produces almost 10% of this renewable electricity. Using the abundant  supply of trash for fuel makes EfW facilities attractive and dependable sources of renewable power.  Unlike wind or solar power, Energy-from-Waste facilities operate 24/7, making them the most continuously reliable source of renewable electricity generation.

Our energy needs will not be solved until we can fund and construct new generation plants that will lead to our energy independence.  We need to invest the money now to ensure these plants will utilize the latest in clean technology and grow our alternative energy sector. Because in the end, it’s not waste if it’s energy.
