Covanta Mid-Conn., Inc. (Covanta Mid-Conn) is committed to protecting the environment in which it operates. Additionally, Covanta Mid-Conn believes it has a responsibility to give back to the community in which it operates and to provide those in the community a better understanding of the benefits of a resource recovery facility. If there are any community concerns regarding the facility, contact Covanta Mid-Conn.

Covanta Mid-Conn provides escorted tours of the facility to anyone interested in learning more about the Mid-Connecticut Resource Recovery Facility process. The facility has hosted several tours for students from local universities and colleges, Boy Scout Troops, members of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Connecticut Coalition for Environmental Justice. Additionally, Covanta Mid-Conn proudly supports local schools and organizations including Junior Achievement (JA) and Riverfront Recapture.

Covanta Mid-Conn “adopted” the local Kinsella, DiLoreto Magnet and Dwight Elementary Schools, supporting school initiatives throughout the year. As a part of that commitment, Covanta sponsors Reading Day and Earth Day to help make learning about protecting our environment more fun.

Covanta Mid-Conn sponsors a Waste to Energy (WTE) curriculum in the JA Company Program. The program is an in-school or after-school curriculum that focuses on analyzing and exploring personal opportunities and responsibilities within a student-led company.

The Mid-Connecticut Resource Recovery Facility is located on the Connecticut River and the River is an integral part in the operation of the facility. Covanta Mid-Conn feels it is important to support the Riverfront Recapture which is a private, non-profit organization that is leading the effort to restore public access to the Connecticut River in Metro Hartford. A regional network of parks and public recreational facilities has been added on the new Riverfront with new improvements becoming available each year. As parks are created, Riverfront Recapture offers a wide range of recreational activity, including community rowing, fishing tournaments, festivals, concerts, and youth programs such as "Get Hooked on Fishing - Not on Drugs."

Covanta Mid-Conn supports diverse activities such as the Greater Hartford Arts Council by providing sponsorship to the Run/Walk Road Race and Street Banner Program for the city of Hartford.

Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority (CRRA) is the owner of the Mid-Connecticut Resource Recovery Facility and is committed to educating residents of the state, especially children, in the safe handling and disposal of solid waste and recyclables. CRRA provides tours of the Regional Recycling and Visitors Center in Hartford and the Garbage Museum in Stratford to assist in this education process. Information about CRRA is located on their website at http://www.crra.org.
