Covanta Mid-Connecticut, Inc. (Covanta Mid-Conn) believes that responsible stewardship of the natural environment is essential for business efficiency and success. As such, Covanta Mid-Conn has achieved membership in the EPA's environmental excellence program called Performance Track.
● Environmental Policy Statement
Covanta Mid-Conn is committed to protecting the environment in which it operates. The implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS) was developed as an integral component of the facility's Environmental Management Program (EMP). The facility’s EMS has been created, based on applicable federal regulations and good management practices, to identify the requirements of EMP. The facility has identified specific requirements to satisfy the objectives of the EMP and to assure: facility compliance with applicable federal, state and local environmental laws, regulations and permits; prevention of pollution; and continual improvement of environmental performance.
This commitment is embodied in Covanta Mid-Conn’s Environmental Policy through the five Environmental Principals:
Principle 1: Environmental Protection:
Covanta Mid-Conn is committed to conducting business in an environmentally sound and cost-effective manner that is protective of human health and the environment.Principle 2: Environmental Compliance:
Covanta Mid-Conn will work continuously to foster a corporate culture that is open and sensitive to environmental matters and complies with all applicable regulations and requirements and which will reach beyond these requirements as necessary to protect human health and the environment. The facility commits to continuously improve our environmental performance, even in areas that do not have regulatory requirements.Principle 3: Environmental Conservation:
Covanta Mid-Conn will maximize the efficient use of renewable fuels, as well as other energy and natural resources, while simultaneously minimizing impact to the environment. This includes pollution prevention at the source, waste minimization, facilitating use of recycling opportunities and responsible disposal of any production by-product and minimization of all uncontrolled releases.Principle 4: Environmental Qualification:
Covanta Mid-Conn will ensure that all employees with duties affecting management and operation of the facility have the necessary information, resources and training for informed environmental decision-making.Principle 5: Environmental Commitment:
Covanta Mid-Conn will provide environmental oversight duty to ensure that the facility's operations are consistent with the company's environmental business practices and are consistent with the other four Principles.
This Environmental Policy is communicated to all employees and made available to the public on request. The involvement of the facility’s workforce and external interested and affected parties in the facility’s Environmental Policy is encouraged through effective communication procedures.
• Performance Track
Covanta Mid-Conn was accepted into EPA’s environmental excellence program called Performance Track. The facility will make the Performance Track Annual Performance Report available to the public on this website in 2006.Performance Track is a public/private partnership recognizing top environmental performance among participating U.S. facilities of all types, sizes, and complexity, public and private. Program partners are providing leadership in many areas, including preventing pollution at its source. Currently, the program has 344 members and welcomes all qualifying facilities.
