As an environmentally-responsible operator, Covanta Haverhill developed a site-wide Environmental Management System (EMS) based on applicable federal regulations and good management practices (GMPs) to ensure:

• Compliance with applicable regulations and permits;
• Prevention of releases to the environment;
• Conservation of natural resources by waste minimization,
• Qualification of employees through training and education, and
• Continued improvement of environmental performance.

The EMS outlines facility procedures and standards and identifies all aspects of the facility’s operation that have a potential environmental impact. Top priority is given to prevention of pollution and continual improvement of environmental performance.
