Covanta Hennepin Energy Resource Company (Covanta Hennepin) operates the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center Facility for Hennepin County Environmental Services. Covanta Hennepin is owned by its parent company Covanta Energy, Inc.

The Hennepin Energy Recovery Center Facility is located at 505 Sixth Avenue North in Minneapolis, Minnesota (Directions). The Facility has operated continuously, 24-hours a day 7-days a week, since it began commercial operation in October of 1989. The facility processes approximately 365,000 tons per year of municipal solid waste (MSW) while generating 38.5 Megawatts (MW) of electricity annually through the operation of an electrical generator. This is equivalent to the electrical consumption of 25,000 homes. Covanta Hennepin also performs ferrous recovery and recycles approximately 11,000 tons of metal annually.
