Covanta Huntsville, Inc. is committed to being an active and supportive community member. Covanta believes it has a responsibility to give back to the community by investing in communities where we operate; providing jobs for local residents; and supporting education, the environment, social and economic development. Over the past seventeen years, it has been a sponsor of many public, private and non-profit organizations. Sponsorship has included in-kind donations of monetary funds, equipment, and/or time and labor.

Covanta Huntsville, Inc. is a premier partner with the City of Huntsville’s Operation Green Team. Operation Green Team endeavors to make Huntsville a role model for the state, region, and Nation in terms of landscape beauty, cleanliness, and environmental consciousness. Through Operation Green Team we are affiliated with Keep America Beautiful, Inc. which is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving waste handling practices in American communities. Through this affiliation, we are able to offer curricula that teach our youth how to manage the waste we produce, intelligently and responsibly.

Covanta Huntsville, Inc. actively contributes to our local Breaking Free Rescue Mission. Each year Covanta Huntsville, Inc. along with its employee’s purchase Christmas presents for all of the children staying in the mission.

Covanta Huntsville, Inc. is an active member of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce. The mission of our Chamber is to Prepare, Develop, and Promote our community for economic growth. They serve as the catalyst for economic development activities in our community.

Covanta Huntsville, Inc. is a sponsor for the Annual Emerald Classic Golf Tournament hosted by The Land Trust of Huntsville and North Alabama. The Land Trust of Huntsville & North Alabama is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving lands for public use to enhance recreation, education, conservation and prosperity in the North Alabama region.

Covanta Huntsville, Inc. conducts a “Hauler Safety Appreciation Day” for all the haulers that conduct business at the Facility. We use this as an opportunity to remind our haulers of the importance of Safety and to acknowledge our appreciation for their commitment to safety.

Covanta Huntsville, Inc. is also committed to providing those living in the community with a better understanding of the benefits of their neighborhood resource recovery facility. As a component of membership in the EPA Performance Track program, Covanta Huntsville, Inc. completes an Annual Performance Report in which it demonstrates to EPA and the public its environmental accomplishments over the year, its continued high level of environmental performance, and its maintenance of the Performance Track membership criteria. Covanta Huntsville, Inc. provides escorted tours of the facility to anyone interested in learning more about the Energy-from-Waste (EfW) process. The facility has hosted tours for students from local grade schools, high schools, universities and colleges, various civic and community organizations, and our customers.
