About Us

Covanta Lee operates the Lee County Solid Waste Resource Recovery Facility in accordance with a service agrreement with Lee County Solid Waste Department. Covanta Lee Inc. is owned by its parent company Covanta Energy, Inc.

The Lee County Solid Waste Resource Recovery Facility is located in Fort Myers, Florida. The Facility has operated continuously, 24-hours a day 7-days a week, since it began commercial operation in 1994. The facility is permittted to process a nominal of 1200 tons of solid waste per day to generate up to 39.7-Megawatt (MW) of renewable energy. This is equivalent to an estimated savings of 372,000 barrels of oil per year or 93,000 tons of coal. Lee County Solid Waste Resource Recovery Facility is equipped to recover both ferrous and non-ferrous metals and as a result recycles approximately 10,000 tons of ferrous metal and 350 tons of non-ferrous metal annually.
