COVANTA Babylon, Inc.
West Babylon, New York

Click to view NEPT InformationThe Babylon Resource Recovery Facility began commercial operation in April 1989 and serves the Town of Babylon. The facility processes 750 tons-per-day of solid waste and generates up to 17 megawatts of renewable energy that is sold to Long Island Power Authority. With a moratorium on landfilling on Long Island, the Babylon facility provides an environmentally safe way to dispose of waste. This facility also operates with a "zero discharge" of process water. That means that all wastewater generated on-site is treated and reused. The facility also utilizes runoff from the landfill, called leachate, for part of its process water.
