The Stanislaus Resource Recovery Facility began commercial operation in January 1989, serving the City of Modesto and the County of Stanislaus in North Central California. The facility processes 800 tons per day of solid waste, which generates up to 22.5 megawatts of renewable energy that is sold to Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The facility is a zero water discharge plant which means that all waste water generated on site is treated and reused in the process. The facility is located in the southwest corner of the county in the community of Crows Landing, about 25 miles from Modesto in the farmlands of California's central valley.
