Covanta Marion Inc. is committed to being an active and supportive community member. Covanta believes it has a responsibility to give back to the community by investing in communities where we operate; providing jobs for local residents; and supporting education, the environment, social and economic development. Over the past 20 years, it has been a sponsor of many public, private and non-profit organizations. Sponsorship has included in-kind donations of monetary funds, equipment, and/or time and labor.

As a component of membership in the EPA Performance Track program, Covanta Marion Inc. completes an Annual Performance Report in which it demonstrates to EPA and the public its environmental accomplishments over the year, its continued high level of environmental performance, and its maintenance of the Performance Track membership criteria.
Covanta Marion Inc. provides escorted tours of the facility to anyone interested in learning more about the Waste-to-Energy process. The facility has hosted tours for students from local grade schools, high schools, universities and colleges, various civic and community organizations, and our customers. Covanta Marion is an active member in the Salem Chamber of Commerce. SACC is the voice for business in the greater Salem area. The SACC meets regularly to discuss new regulations, community changes and various other topics. SACC’s highly respected public policy staff works with state legislators and officials to help shape specific laws and to promote a regulatory system that responds to businesses’ concerns.
Covanta Marion is an active participant in the Marion County Solid Waste Management Advisory Council (SWAC). This program consists of volunteering and the being appointed to the council by the Marion County Board of Commissioners. The council is comprised of 16 members picked from the community to support the interests of industry, the lay people, recycling, chamber of commerce, haulers and Marion County. This council makes recommendations to Marion Counties Board of Commissioners on Solid Waste issues in Marion County.
Covanta Marion conducts a “Hauler Safety Appreciation Day” for all the haulers that conduct business at the Facility. This day includes snacks for the drivers, various prizes based on Safety quiz results, media coverage, and invited dignitaries from the Covanta Family and the various Regulatory Agencies in Oregon.
