FAIRFIELD, NJ, FEBRUARY 28, 2008 — Covanta Energy, a world leader in the development and operation of large scale Energy-from-Waste and renewable energy projects, will participate in and host a panel discussion at the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference (WIREC) being held March 4-6, 2008 at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center.
Derek Porter, Vice President of External Affairs at Covanta Energy, will join Rick Brandes, Chief of the Waste Treatment Branch, U.S. EPA, Office of Solid Waste, and other industry experts, in a side event panel discussion on the current state, latest trends, and the potential of waste streams as a source of renewable energy at the event.
WIREC 2008 is the largest renewable energy conference in the country. Hosted by the U.S. Government in cooperation with the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), the conference will examine how both public policies and private efforts can most effectively advance the adoption of renewable energy efforts on a global scale.

The panel discussion, “The Role of Waste in the Future of Renewable Energy," will take place on Tuesday, March 4 from 12:30-2 p.m. in the convention center. Panel members will examine the carbon loading implications of various waste streams, the role of recycling in energy recovery, developing technologies, and how other countries are addressing these issues.
“Our role in processing waste into energy provides us a unique perspective on renewable energy generation. The panel will be moderated by Jim Cabot, Senior Vice President, Energy and Environment Practice, Rasky Baerlein Strategic Communications. Joining Mr. Cabot on the panel will be Mr. Porter and Mr. Brandes along with Bill Davis, Chief Executive Officer of Ze-Gen Inc.; Ted Michaels, President of Integrated Waste Services Association; Magnus Schönning, First Secretary, Embassy of Sweden in Ottawa, Canada; Dr. Nick Themelis, Professor, Earth Institute at Columbia University, and Jim Warner, Executive Director, Lancaster Solid Waste Management Authority.
The panel discussion will be held in room143 C of the convention center. In addition to the panel, Covanta will exhibit at the Trade Show at WIREC 2008 at Booth 147.
