West Wareham, MA, December 28, 2009 – Covanta SEMASS, L.P., (Covanta SEMASS) a subsidiary of Covanta Holding Corporation, an internationally recognized owner and operator of large-scale Energy-from-Waste and renewable energy projects, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Capital Paper Recycling Inc. to provide recycling services to Cape Cod communities.
The new agreement allows Covanta SEMASS to offer communities in Cape Cod bundled services, including dual stream recycling in addition to residual waste disposal at its Energy-from-Waste facility in Rochester. According to the Energy Recovery Council, communities with Energy-from-Waste facilities typically achieve higher rates of recycling than the national average because they have adopted integrated waste management solutions and recover energy from what remains.
“We are pleased that Covanta is now working with Capital Paper Recycling to provide bundled services of dual stream recycling in addition to residual waste disposal at its Energy-from-Waste facility in Rochester,” said Robert C. Lawton Jr., Town Administrator, Town of Yarmouth. “The new service will help communities like Yarmouth increase recycling rates which will in turn reduce fees on waste disposal.”
The SEMASS Energy-from-Waste facility in Rochester serves southeastern Massachusetts communities by converting municipal solid waste into clean, renewable energy that powers 75,000 homes.
“This new agreement with Capital Paper Recycling gives us the opportunity to better serve the needs of Cape Cod communities for waste disposal and recycling,” said Paul Stauder, Senior Vice President, Covanta Americas. “The new combined offering will save our client communities money and at the same time increase recycling rates by making it easier for these communities to recycle. Increasing recycling rates and capturing energy from the residual municipal solid waste is a true win-win for Cape Cod.”
All materials collected for recycling will be taken to a Cape Cod transfer station and then sent to the Capital Paper Recycling facility in Weymouth where it will be sorted and processed. Covanta SEMASS will be reaching out to client communities to discuss the combined offering in the coming months.
Commenting on the new service offering, Brewster Town Administrator Charles Sumner added, “Covanta has for many years demonstrated to be an outstanding waste disposal service provider with a proven track record of reliable and dependable service. We are delighted that Covanta has integrated a convenient recycling service option as well.”
Capital Paper Recycling Inc. currently handles a vast majority of the recycling programs within Boston's high-rise office buildings, corporate campuses and municipalities. The agreement with Covanta will expand the company’s business to Cape Cod.
"On behalf of Capital Paper Recycling I'm excited for the new Cape Cod recycling business venture with Covanta SEMASS,” said Daniel Murphy, Vice President, Capital paper Recycling, Inc. “The recycling opportunities within Cape Cod communities are outstanding and have the potential to blossom in the coming years. Covanta's regional market expertise coupled with Capital Paper's industry knowledge will undoubtedly have a positive effect on Cape Cod's regional recycling capture rate."
