Covanta Pittsfield, LLC is an active and supportive community member. We believe that we have a responsibility to “give back” and do so by investing in the community where we operate; providing jobs for local residents; and supporting education, the environment, social and economic development. During its history, the facility has been a sponsor of many public, private and non-profit organizations. Sponsorship has included in-kind donations of monetary funds, equipment, and/or time and labor.

Covanta Pittsfield, LLC has generously supported the United Way for many years. In addition, the facility staff have participated on the Pittsfield Resource Recovery Board and furnished technical assistance to the City of Pittsfield on solid waste and recycling issues. When recycling became even more expensive for the City due to rising fuel prices, the facility designed and implemented a low cost, but very effective, recycling consolidation system to allow the City to reap the monetary and social benefits of belonging to the Commonwealth’s Materials Recycling Facility. 

Covanta Pittsfield, LLC also offers tours to local public and private schools and colleges, throughout the year, many of which have incorporated waste-to-energy as part of their curriculum. During the past two years, the facility has hosted members of the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area for tours.

Covanta Pittsfield, LLC is also a member of the Berkshire County Chamber of Commerce, whose stated purpose is to “lead and advance economic development [to] support the civic and social welfare of Berkshire County…”  Established, environmentally sound solid waste management is part of the infrastructure that can lead to increased development, and Covanta Pittsfield, LLC is proud of its acceptance by the community for the role it plays.

Through school tours and on-site Q&A by Pittsfield residents who choose to drop-off their recyclables and waste, Covanta Pittsfield, LLC provides those living in the community with a better understanding of the benefits of their local resource recovery facility.
