General Community Outreach.
Covanta SEMASS, L.P. is committed to being an active and supportive community member. Covanta believes it has a responsibility to give back to the community by investing in communities where we operate; providing jobs for local residents; and supporting education, the environment, social and economic development. Over the past 20 years, SEMASS has sponsored many public, private and non-profit organizations. Sponsorship has included in-kind donations of monetary funds, equipment, and/or time and labor. Some of the more recent include:
Council of SEMASS Communities (COSC).
Covanta SEMASS is also committed to providing those living in our communities with a better understanding of the benefits of their neighborhood Energy-from-Waste facility. Covanta SEMASS sponsors and supports periodic meetings of the Council of SEMASS Communities (COSC) which includes representatives from all sixty (60) SEMASS long-term contracted communities. Meetings are typically semi-annually to annually or more frequent, if required. These meetings allow discussion of upcoming contractual items, other issues of concern related to community needs for solid waste processing and disposal.
U.S. EPA Performance Track.
As a component of membership in the U.S. EPA Performance Track program, Covanta SEMASS completes an Annual Performance Report in which it demonstrates to U.S.EPA and the public its environmental accomplishments over the year, its continued high level of environmental performance, and its maintenance of the Performance Track membership criteria.
