Covanta SEMASS, L.P. believes that responsible stewardship of the environment is essential for overall business efficiency and success. Therefore, Covanta SEMASS is committed to protecting the environment in which it operates and pledges to operate in compliance with applicable laws pertaining to human health and the environment.
Covanta SEMASS’s commitment to the environment is embodied in its Environmental Policy through the following five principles:
The Environmental Policy and the associated environmental principles are communicated to all employees and the general public. Questions regarding the Environmental Policy from the facility’s workforce and external interested and affected parties are encouraged through effective communication procedures.
As an environmentally-responsible owner and operator, Covanta SEMASS developed a site-wide Environmental Management System (EMS) based on applicable federal regulations and industry best management practices (BMPs) to ensure:
The EMS outlines facility procedures and standards and identifies all aspects of the facility’s operation that have a potential environmental impact. Top priority is given to prevention of pollution and continual improvement of environmental performance.
As such, Covanta SEMASS, L.P. is an active member in the US EPA’s environmental excellence program, National Environmental Performance Track (NEPT).
Performance Track is a voluntary program in which both public and private facilities consistently exceed regulatory requirements, work closely with their communities, and excel in protecting the environment and public health. Performance Track is a partnership that recognizes top environmental performance among participating U.S. facilities of all types, sizes, and complexity, public and private.
Program partners are providing leadership in many areas, including preventing pollution at its source. Currently, the program has about 400 members and welcomes all qualifying facilities.
