Covanta Springfield, LLC owns and operates the Pioneer Valley Resource Recovery Facility. Waste is delivered to the facility for processing into energy from 16 long-term contract communities in Massachusetts and Connecticut.  Covanta Springfield, LLC is owned by its parent company Covanta Energy, Inc.

Covanta Springfield, LLC is located in the Town of Agawam, Hampden County, Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Facility has operated continuously, 24-hours a day 7-days a week, since it began commercial operation in 1988. The facility processes between 123,000 - 131,400 tons of municipal solid waste and FOG (liquid fats, oil & grease) per year while exporting 7.5 Megawatts of electricity to the power grid.
